Antidiuretic hormone (ADH), Vasopressin

An antidiuretic hormone released by the pituitary gland that increases the reabsorption of water by the kidney conserving water and reducing the volume of urine produced, also called vasopressin.

Desmopressin

Synthetic analogue of the antidiuretic hormone vasopressin.  Capable of mimicking the action of vasopressin to reduce the amount of urine production.

Organs whose function is to secrete regulating substances, or hormones, into the blood.

Enuresis

The involuntary passing of urine.

Hormones

Nocturia

The need to pass urine once or more during the night.

Nocturnal enuresis, bedwetting

The involuntary passing of urine during night-time sleep, also called bedwetting in lay terms.

Primary Nocturnal Enuresis

Bedwetting in children over the age of five, who have not experienced a longer period of dry nights.

Secondary Nocturnal Enuresis

Bedwetting in children over the age of five, who have previously been dry for a period of at least six months.

Sleep deprivation

A shortage of quality, undisturbed sleep that results in detrimental effects on physical and mental well-being.

Urinary incontinence

Uncontrollable loss of urine.
