ZOMACTON is Ferring’s somatropin product, a synthetic human growth hormone (hGH) produced by recombinant DNA technology. The development of somatropin has radically changed the outlook for many children with growth disorders.

The two main uses for the product are to treat Growth Hormone Deficiency   (GHD) in children and girls with Turner’s syndrome .  Restricted growth or well-being due to these conditions can be successfully treated with supplements of ZOMACTON, a product with a good safety profile.

Somatropin is identical to growth hormone produced by the body and stimulate cell division in the growth plates of long bones and in other organs that need the action of growth hormone for their development and functioning.

How to use ZOMACTON
Somatropin is broken down by the digestive system and therefore cannot be taken by mouth. It needs to be administered through the skin as an injection.

All cases of Growth Hormone Deficiency (GHD) and Turner’s syndrome should ideally be treated on a nightly basis (at bedtime) with somatropin.  The dose and exact schedule of administration is based on an individual assessment of each patient, but the treatment is over several years.

No-needle device
ZOMACTON can be administered using a unique no-needle delivery system, ZOMAJET 2 VISION. The technology has been developed to offer an easy, alternative means of administration for somatropin.

Ferring’s introduction of ZOMAJET 2 VISION has created significant awareness among physicians and patients as a result of its no-needle delivery system. The no-needle device may cause less anxiety for young patients who are often faced with several years of treatment of nightly injections.

Poor patient compliance is a widely acknowledged problem with growth hormone therapy. Reports indicate that 36 to 49 per cent of patients fail to comply with their treatment. The daily use of needle injections is a major issue with some patients.  The use of a no-needle device could help encourage compliance and improve treatment success rates.

Research has shown that 7 out of 10 children who try a no-needle device prefer to continue to use it compared to regular needle devices. ZOMAJET 2 VISION is easy to use and delivers effective somatropin treatment.
