Ferring’s mesalazine product PENTASA [url: "/en/therapeutic/gastro/" ] is used for the treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
Ferring offers many different dosage-forms for PENTASA such as tablets, oral granules, suppositories and rectal suspensions and is currently developing further-improved formulations.
Improved PENTASA granule formulations
PENTASA granules are available in 1-gram sachets. The PENTASA 1-gram sachet is currently undergoing some changes in order to improve its usability. The result will be a new granular formulation, which is less bulky, as well as new packaging that is easier to open. In addition, Ferring is developing a 2-gram sachet in order to facilitate dosing to patients who require higher doses. PENTASA 1-gram and 2-gram sachets are orally administered.
PENTASA foam
The development of a rectal foam formulation is being carried out by Ferring France and is currently in the development stage of clinical testing. The presentation is a proprietary formulation using micronised mesalazine.
The foam is intended to extend product options for PENTASA and provide a metered local dosing regimen.
