Dr. John Patterson qualified in medicine in 1971 and obtained a membership (now fellowship) of the Royal College of Physicians in 1974. His career with AstraZeneca and its predecessor companies spanned over 30 years where he was appointed to the main board, as Executive Director, responsible for development. John Patterson has held a number of non-executive directorships in both listed and private companies, such as Amersham PLC and Cobham PLC. He has been a member of the supervisory board of the UK Medicines Control Agency and the PhRMA Science Committee as well as the President of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry.
